  • What is your address?

  • Do you have parking?
    We do not have any parking – and the use of the loading bay is strictly prohibited. The nearest public parking is located a short 5 minute walk away - as follows: Rose Car Park, 26 The Bittoms, Kingston-upon-Thames, KT1 2AE Rates are: 1 hour £1.80 2 hours £3.60 3 hours £5.70 4 hours £7.20 + 4 hours £12.50 Parking in Kingston is extremely limited so we recommend using public transport: CLICK HERE FOR INFORMATION PROVIDED BY TRANSPORT FOR LONDON ​
  • Do I need to book in advance?
    Advance bookings are not required, but are recommended to avoid disappointment!
  • What time should I arrive for my booking?
    Please arrive 15 minutes beforehand.
  • Do I need a license, or any experience to drive the boat?
    No licence or experience is required to drive our self-drive boats. Full guidance is provided before you set off – or please watch our video before arrival:
  • Is it possible to have someone to drive the boat for us?
    We can offer this for £20/hour (booked in advance) or we can offer private cruises for up to 12 guests as follows: www.riverscapes.co.uk/cruises
  • Are there any toilets?
    There are no toilets on any of our self-drive or BBQ/picnic boats so we suggest visiting a rest-room in advance of arrival.
  • What is the procedure on arrival?
    Please wait on the pedestrian walkway outside the Turk Launches arch until a crew member collects you for check-in. You will then be shown to your boat where a safety briefing will take place – and a deposit will be taken if not already done so in advance.
  • How much is the damage deposit?
    £100 per boat
  • How do I pay the damage deposit?
    Credit card on the day. We DO NOT accept cash. Deposits will be returned automatically provided there are no issues with your boat hire. This usually takes 3-5 days depending on the banking system. We are currently looking into credit card holds.
  • What is the procedure when I return the boat?
    Crew will guide you in, assist with ropes and disembarkation. Once the boat hire is over, we politely request that all guests depart the area immediately so as not to block the pontoons/walkways. Please do not wait around for your deposit – these are returned automatically, provided there are no issues with your boat hire. This usually takes 3-5 days depending on the banking system.
  • How long does it take for my damage deposit to be returned?
    Deposits will be returned automatically, provided there are no issues with your boat hire. This usually takes 3-5 days depending on the banking system. We are currently looking into credit card holds.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
    We only accept cancellations or re-schedules up to 48 hours in advance, regardless of the weather. However, we reserve the right to postpone bookings if river conditions do not permit navigation and re-books will be granted under these circumstances: http://riverconditions.environment-agency.gov.uk - look out for the Teddington to Penton Hook Reach.
  • Do you still operate when it is raining?
    We only accept cancellations or re-schedules up to 48 hours in advance, regardless of the weather.   • I didn't receive my confirmation email
    Please allow 12 hours for your confirmation email to be sent. If you have provided all the information on the booking form but did not receive a confirmation, please check your junk folder. If you have still not received confirmation, please email us at: info@riverscapes.co.uk
  • Can I pick a boat of my choice?
    Boats will be allocated by our crew and are unable to be selected by hirers. Most of our self-drive boats are red Whaly boats (as pictured) but we do have a couple of grey and black ones. Our BBQ/picnic boats are as follows:
  • What is the maximum number of guests per boat?
    6 guests is the maximum number of guests on any of our self-drive boats. 10 guests is the maximum number of guests on any of our BBQ/picnic boats. For any extra guests, we recommend taking 2 boats or you may wish to consider booking a private skippered cruise for up to 12 guests: www.riverscapes.co.uk/cruises
  • What is the speed restriction?
    The speed restriction on the Upper Thames is STRICLY 5 miles an hour.
  • What is the minimum age of a driver?
    Any guest who drives the boat must be 18 or over – and remain sober for the entire hire.
  • How far can I go during my hire?
    90 minute bookings are not permitted to pass through any locks - area of travel is between Teddington Lock and East Molesey Lock ONLY 4 hour bookings can go through ONE lock up river - area of travel between Teddington Lock and Sunbury Lock ONLY 8 hour bookings can go through 4 locks up river - area of travel between Teddington Lock and Penton Hook Lock ONLY Enjoy the plenty of places of interest to visit in the area as well as many riverside bars/restaurants and picnic spots (grassy verges and sandy beaches) which you may stop off at!
  • Can I go through a lock?
    Only 4 and 8 hour self-drive boats can go through a lock. 90 minute self-drive boats AND all (ie. 2 AND 4 hour) BBQ/picnic boats are NOT permitted to transit through a lock.
  • Can I stop off and get out of the boat during my hire?
    You may stop off and get out of the boat anywhere except shallow waters or private moorings. There are many riverside bars and restaurants or grassy verges and sandy beaches up river to stop off at and enjoy a picnic. If leaving the boat for any length of time, please tie the boat up securely and take the key and any life jackets with you.
  • Do you have a map?
    We recommend using the "OPEN CANAL MAP" APP for directions and details during your hire. You are able to see where you are, mooring locations, etc and can even zoom in to get 'street view'!
  • Can I drop the boat off elsewhere?
    All hires start and finish at the same spot where you picked up the boat.
  • Who can I bring with me?
    Anyone is welcome on our self-drives (unless they are drunk). Babies and children are at your own risk! Dogs must be on a lead at all times.
  • Can I bring babies / children?
    Babies and children are welcome but at your own risk! Babies are free of charge if they need to be carried.
  • Can I bring a dog?
    Dogs are welcome but please keep them on a lead at all times. Please also note, we cannot already provide life jackets for dogs.
  • Do you provide life jackets?
    Yes, life jackets are provided and children and non-swimmers MUST wear a life jacket for the duration of their hire.
  • Can I bring food onboard?
    You are welcome to bring your own food – or why not visit our RECCOMMEDATIONS to arrange outside catering, graze boxes or picnics in advance. We also suggest bringing a bin liner as the boat must be left clean and litter free upon departure.
  • Can I drink onboard?
    The Captain/driver is NOT permitted to drink WHATSOEVER and must remain COMPLETELY sober throughout the entire hire. The remainder of guests are limited to the following: 3 BOTTLES/CANS PER GUEST OF BEER OR PRE-MIXED SPIRITS or HALF A BOTTLE OF WINE/PROSECCO/CHAMPAGNE PER GUEST NO SPIRITS ARE PERMITTED For guests who wish to drink more than the limits, we recommend a private skippered cruise for up to 12 guests: www.riverscapes.co.uk/cruises or a BBQ/Picnic boat with a driver.
  • Do the boats have a steering wheel
    All our self-drive boats have a steering wheel.
  • Do the boats have a cover?
    Umbrellas are provided if required. Unfortunately, our sun covers are being modernised and not available this season. Our BBQ boats do not have covers -but a couple of the picnic boats do have this facility and these are detailed on the booking system.
  • Information regarding the BBQ / picnic boats
    The maximum number of guests on a BBQ or picnic boat is 10. The BBQ boats do not have a cover due to H&S regulations. The picnic boats do have a cover if required. These boats have an electric engine and MUST be driven at 5 miles an hour (jogging speed). Whilst these boats are really easy to drive, the driver must remain sober and concentrate whilst under way - or a driver can be hired for £50/hour (arranged in advance / subject to staff on the day ). These boats are not permitted through a lock - they are only be be driven between Molesey Lock and Teddington Lock. Dogs (on a lead to/from the launch) are welcome.
  • Am I able to fish from the boat?
    As long as it fishing season and you have a fishing licence (from the Environment Agency or Post Office) - you can fish from our self-drives.
  • What is your address?
    Our self-drive boats are located at: Gate 5 Staines Road Chertsey Surrey KT16 8PQ Please DO NOT phone or try and find us at the main marina office via Gate 1 - or near the Penton Hook Yacht Club. As from 2nd June 2021, we have moved to the other side of the complex via Gate 5.
  • Where are you located?
    Turn immediately left through Gate 5 and locate us near the Riverscapes banner at the far end of the car park. PLEASE do not ask for us at the Le Boat portacabin as this is a totally different company! Please also don't try and find us at the main marina office or the Yacht Club as we are located on the other side of the complex! Furthermore, trespassing onto berth holder pontoons/walkways will not be tolerated! Please make your way to/from your hire without wondering around and looking into other peoples' boats - thanks for your co-operation!
  • Is there a place to park my car?
    Yes there is! However, as there is very limited space, only one car per hire is recommended and there is a charge of 10 per car payable thereafter.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
    We only accept cancellations or reschedules up to 48 hours in advance regardless of the weather.

    The lead hirer should bring a form of Government issued ID with them on the day.

  • Can I pick the boat of my choice?
    Boats will be allocated on arrival and are unable to be selected by hirers. Most of our self-drives are the red Whaly boats as pictured.

We recommend using the "OPEN CANAL MAP" APP for directions during your hire including mooring options, pubs and restaurants, etc. Zoom in for satelitte view!
  • Do you have a map?

  • Who can I bring with me?
    Anyone is welcome on our self-drives. Babies and children are welcome - but at your own risk! Dogs are welcome too - but please keep them on a lead within the marina!

  • Do I need to bring my own food and drink?
    Bring your own - OR visit our RECOMMENDATIONS to arrange outside catering, graze boxes or picnics in advance. THE CAPTAIN/DRIVER IS NOT PERMITTED TO DRINK WHATSOEVER THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HIRE. The limit for the remainder of guests is as follows (per guest): Half a bottle of wine/prosecco/champagne OR 3 cans/bottles of beer or pre-mixed spirits per guests NO SPIRITS PERMITTED.
  • Do you provide life jackets?
    Yes, life jackets are provided.
  • Do I need a skippers licence?

  • Can I book a skippered cruise instead of a self-drive?
